New Halloween Animation - The Babysitter
Hi all,

It's that time of year again, so here's the new Halloween special:

http://www.matazone.co.uk/animpages/the_babysitter_halloween_animation_2004.html

(If LJ objects to the length of the link then use one on the main page http://www.matazone.co.uk/theotherside.html )

I'm really happy with it, I think it works just as I'd hoped.

For those of you in the US and who are old enough, DON'T FORGET TO VOTE! The rest of the world is counting on you to make the right choice. In my opinion that is Kerry for many extremely clear reasons that I won't go into here otherwise I may bore you all senseless, but if you disagree then you should also vote, that's what living in a democracy is all about. May the best man win.

Next time: Not sure at the moment, but I've been considering a new Lapin for ages now...

Have fun and stay safe,

Mata

PS, did I mention... VOTE!!!!!

I'm glad people noticed that. It's quite small and so I wasn't sure if people would spot that bit!

Don't worry.. If I say vote to people one more time in my lj I may get stabbed in my sleep.

That Animation was just freaky! I love it! Wow, I think of all your recent animations I like that one the best. Most of the power came from the unsaid and the mood. Brilliant work!

I figured it would make a nice change of pace to try and do something without dialogue. The Halloween specials are always a good chance for me to try something new, and I think that on all counts the new ideas seem to have worked.

I do however feel a little mean now though, as a friend of mine who is nearly deaf wrote to me asking what he was missing because there were no subtitles...

We'll see what happens. I'm not promising anything, and I've got to get cracking with a chapter of my thesis before I can even begin to think about the next animation.

I'm writing about the author William Gibson, 'The Gendering of Cyberspace: Gender, Identity and Sexuality in the works of William Gibson'. I still find it an interesting topic, even after about five years working on it, and I'm hoping to get it finished by December next year, so I've got a huge amount of work to get done in the next thirteen months.

Australia voted back in the Conservative guy who likes Bush, didn't it? It struck me as a bit odd, but then again I didn't really know what the other contenders were offering so perhaps he really was the best choice. I just tend to feel nervous about any politician who actually genuinely seems to like Bush.

Australia is an extreamly politacly aware country, we are one of the few contrys left where the average person can and will disern bettween fedral, state and local poltics, posibly voting differnt ways for each.

As for why the Libral party got back in, it comes down to a few simple things..

1) Ppl still feal the pain from labours last stint in power, we where left with a 96 billion $ goverment deficiate, and that was only just payed off this year..

To put it in perspective, thats a debt of 4,800 per person, or about 20% of the average wage as it was at the time, unemployment was at 12% (youth as in under 25 years old was at 40%) It was a realy bad place to be in.

2) labour has been unable to voice much of an opion other htne Librals are BAD B.A.D., that might cut the cheese with a handfull of undicded voters but realy they need to be out stanind and say somethign new.

3) The overhall of the healthcare system proposed came down to if your over 75 we shall treet you frist, and indeed pay for your way into a private hospital, any fool shoudl see that only buys votes for those 72 and over as everyone else becomes second class healthcare patchents.

4) Decalrings most of Tasmaina a loging free area, they have high unemployment there, most of the jobs are loggin jobs, that lost them 3 seats at lest.

5) New guy in power, he should of made the move a year ago, no one wants someupstarter at his first campaine promising this and that.

6) Trying to say the govermnt woudlnt keep its election promises, that didnt work at all, hell this govermtn brought in a law that states ones elction camaine promises need to be kept, IIRC a vote of no confidance can be passed by a minority under the braking of campain promsies, that was brought in becase the last win by labour resuslted in 4/ths of the promises being cut in less then one week.

On the likeing bush note, Australia need to like America, simple, dosent matter whos in, we had our own resons for following to iraq (we need acctaul combat practice and hence forthwidth our SAS is now clased the best in the world WOOT). Australia also needs to like China, Russia, Europe and most Aisan countrys, we need to trade with them, they dont need to trade with us, simple =>

It's amazing how scary something as simple a smile can be. Awesome job.
I voted yesterday, by the way. If I dind't have to go work for the man, I would have worn my Tori Amos shirt that says to "Start Your Summer Off Righ, Trim Your Bush..." Damn the man.
I hope we get a great turn out this time around and over power the Bush supporters... I know there are a ton of people watching in anticipation.
